About
Karen Kennedy
I found Fine Art to be my passion when I studied drawing, painting, and sculpture with four professional artists during the 1970’s. I developed a small business that included private instruction, exhibiting my work at shows, and sales of my art in various venues.
As the extra-curricular demands of our children increased, I embarked on a career in accounting and later as a business systems analyst. During those years I had the opportunity to travel and always visited the famous Art Museums of the United States, Europe, and Canada. Although I found inspiration in each museum, my favorite is the Louvre. Paul Cezanne said it best, “The Louvre is the book in which we learn to read”.
Now that I am retired from my business career, I am fully focused on evolving my fine art skills. It brings me an incredible joy to be actively creating drawings and paintings again. My favorite medium is still oil, but acrylics are becoming a very close second choice. Subjects for landscape paintings abound where I live and where I travel. They provide me with an emotional inspiration and a challenge that I enjoy. My recent drawing classes have renewed my excitement with portraiture. Several of my commissioned portraits may be viewed in the gallery of Private Collections. My ongoing learning experiences this year have included classes in Pastel and Watercolor.
I am currently a member artist, and the President of the Roxborough Arts Council in Littleton, Colorado. In July of 2008, my “Snow Deer” painting was accepted in an all Colorado show at the Wildlife Experience Museum, Parker, Colorado. I won a Best of Show award for my painting titled “A New Beginning” in the juried "Spring Forward" show, April of 2009 and the First Place award in 2-dimensional Art for "Steller Spring" in 2010.
